How To Avoid Hiring A Cowboy Marquee Hire Company

If you’re planning on hosting an outdoor event then you will need to hire a marquee in case your big day is ruined by rain or other adverse weather conditions. It is important – especially if this is your first attempt at hosting a big occasion - to conduct some thorough research before you just pull the first marquee hire company out of the Yellow Pages, otherwise you may end up dealing with a cowboy company that could ruin the event.

Whatever the reason for your celebration –a birthday, wedding, party, anniversary, corporate function- it is too important to entrust in the hands of a cowboy marquee hire company.

It is estimate that there are over 1000 marquee hire companies in operation in the UK so follow these guidelines to help you pick the best company available:

Compare The Market
Firstly it is essential that you do some research into a few different marquee hire companies. Visit a few firms and chat to them to give them an idea of what you want and how long you need the marquee for. Then ask for an estimate from each company so you can go home and compare offers.
If you’re hosting a corporate ‘do and, if it all goes well, you will likely be hosting future events, tell the marquee hire company and see whether you can get a discount (if not be sure to ask for one on the next hire!).

Check Out Their Website
A good marquee hire company will have a proper website with a gallery full of photographs of events where their marquees have been erected. If there’s no gallery on the website, alarm bells should begin to ring. Similarly, if the images seem to be copied and pasted from somewhere else, or you can only find pictures of some of the workers putting a marquee up in their own back garden, make you sure you contact the company and ask them directly for previous examples of their work.

Check the website for testimonials from customers to find out how the marquee hire company performed on the day of their event. Even better, ask the company for the contact details of some of their clients and speak to a representative directly for honest feedback.

Are They Covered?
Any decent marquee hire firm will hold a valid insurance policy, so ask to see a copy of their Public Liability Insurance certificate to spot the shysters from the cream of the industry!

Health & Safety
Just like insurance, any good marquee hire firm will have plenty of health and safety documentation, as the industry demands it. If there’s no evidence of such documentation then look outside for horses because they’re cowboys!
